Having already provided kits for West Green Football Club Under 13s, Matsuko is proud to support another local junior football team, Hoyland Town Junior Magpies Under 10s. We will be sponsoring their away kit for the upcoming 21/22 season.
Based in Barnsley, Hoyland Town Junior Football Club ‘The Magpies’ is Hoyland’s longest established junior football team. In May 2020, Antony Wildsmith and Richard Hudson formed the Under 10s team after a few local children in that age group were dropped from their previous football team.
Close friends Antony and Richard were eager to pass on their passion and enthusiasm, training the team twice a week despite both working full-time jobs. They even found time to take the kids on day trips!
Gathering sponsorships hasn’t been easy, and without the support and fundraising efforts of parents Louise Ivill, Lucy Wildsmith, and Keeley Hudson it wouldn’t have been possible.
Keeley said: “This is not just a football team; this is a family. Great friendships have formed between both the kids and parents, it makes Sunday mornings in the winter bearable. Richard and Antony gave up a lot of their time for the kids to give them a stable football family and we are all so grateful to them and our sponsors. Ian Collins at Matsuko Pond & Garden has helped with the away kits for the next upcoming season and we are very thankful, it’s people like him that keep us going, we are proud as a team to be wearing this kit and logo.”
In July this year, the team was hit by tragedy when founder Antony unexpectedly passed away, sending a wave of shock and disbelief through the club. A true gent, Antony was proud of his squad, kind, helpful, and always made the time and effort for everyone, whether in training or in games. He will be greatly missed by everyone, both for his role at the football club and as a good friend to many.
Here’s wishing the young team huge successes for the season ahead.
